"Ilabnaty" (To My Daughter) is a timeless book, that was written over a span of 10 years, and won the 1964 UNESCO prize as one of the best ten books worldwide written on Motherhood. The author is a well known writer with over sixty books about the Egyptian and Islamic civilizations among other literary topics.
The book is a gush of warm feelings of motherhood shored by a profound understanding of the Egyptian and Islamic cultures, and seasoned by years of experience.
Yet after four decades, the book is more relevant than ever. Surprisingly, you find fresh thoughts and timeless values, touching on the very difficult questions we face today raising our own children.
Ilabnaty is both touching and inspiring, with words carefully selected and beaded into strings of meanings with such craftsmanship comparable to Chopin’s romantic nocturnes or Monet’s impressions of flower fields. This kindled the idea of reintroducing this great work with twenty three original paintings by Dr. Taher Abdel Azim inspired from the chapters of the book. The artist has dealt with the book like a fine orchestrator dealing with a formidable melody. He sometimes flows in harmony with the original tune, demonstrating deep respect and awe, and at other times he allows himself to be carried by his own inspiration into a counterpoint that adds depth and verve to the original tune. Aroused by the rich revelations in the book, the artist rushed into new forms of expression and impression, enriching the already sophisticated work to bring it to a level of completion and perfection that is rarely possible.
The book was first published in 1956 and in this new illustrated edition the book is a wonderful present to every mother and to every daughter and comes in several different cover designs to match different tastes.
